  14. <p>   [Text] The leader of the main opposition group in Zambia,
  15. Mr. Frederick Chiluba, has accused President Kenneth Kaunda of
  16. inciting tribalism to divide the nation.
  17. </p>
  18. <p>   Mr. Chiluba is chairman of the Movement for Multi-party
  19. Democracy [MMD]. He was responding to a statement made by
  20. President Kaunda that he would investigate long-standing
  21. grievances of the Lozi people in western Zambia who had fought
  22. for a separate state at the time of independence in 1964.
  23. </p>
  24. <p>   President Kaunda has until now ignored the demands for
  25. greater autonomy.
